A recent study found that crime labs across the country are literally being incentivized to turn out results that will be favorable to prosecutors in getting convictions.
TROY, IL — An 11-year-old entrepreneur recently learned a lesson about the economics of living in a police state when her home-based cupcake business was closed-down by local bureaucrats.
We know we aren’t imagining a problem when a leading intellectual think tank holds a conference specifically devoted to the topic of the American police state. Former Congressman Ron Paul was invited to speak at the Ludwig Von Mises Institute’s event in Houston, titled “The U.S. Police State.”
COTATI, CA — A couple and their roommate were terrorized when police officers broke down their front door and tased a husband in response to a noise complaint. Despite the shocking video that captured the incident, the police were cleared for breaking into the home and assaulting the 3 occupants, and instead one of the victims was put on trial.
McBAIN, MI — A Michigan swine farmer is facing oppressive regulations and threats from the DNR over the fact that he raises pigs that powerful farming lobbies disapprove of; pigs that have been raised for thousands of years.
DALLAS, TX — Another Dallas police officer is under investigation for shooting an unarmed man as he surrendered with both hands in the air.
ORLANDO, FL — An unarmed man was shot to death in his own apartment by the FBI after a grueling 8-hour interrogation. The man was Ibragim Todashev, a Chechen immigrant being investigated because he was an acquaintance of one of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing. He was ultimately shot 6 times in the chest and once in the back of the head, which his father describes as an “execution” performed to “silence” his son. Months later, the Feds still have not offered any cogent explanations of the the incident or why their agents altered their story multiple times.
NEW YORK CITY, NY — An 84-year-old man was hospitalized after he incorrectly crossed the street and could not understand the commands of NYPD officers who wanted to adjust his lawless behavior.
GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A man was forced to the concrete at gunpoint, handcuffed, and held with a pistol aimed at his back by an officer who didn’t approve of him exercising his right to bear arms.
PALESTINE, IL — A high school was put into complete lockdown when someone found a single .22 caliber round in the gymnasium. Students were confined to classrooms as police searched their lockers and personal vehicles.
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — A deaf driver was beaten by police on the side of the highway when he was unable to understand and comply with their verbal commands.
HOUSTON, TX — A charitable citizen discovered what a police state feels like when he was accosted by government agents, handcuffed, and searched with dogs after he stopped to give a homeless man some money.
FULLERTON, CA — In 2011, a group of police officers brutally beat an unarmed homeless man to death on a street corner with clubs, fists, and repeated electric shocks. The story got national attention when the video of the attack showed the mentally ill man wailed for his father as police bludgeoned him mercilessly. The story reached its heartbreaking conclusion when a jury announced that the police officers who had been charged with his death would all walk away as free men. The frustrating story shows that even in the rare instances when police officers face criminal charges for their brutality, their position of power makes it incredibly easy for them to get away with murder. The only objection the Fullerton Police Department had with the behavior of their officers was their use of profanity.
HOLLY HILL, FL — A police officer opened fire and seriously wounded a man’s dog after forcing his way into the wrong residence while searching for a woman convicted of a consensual sex act.
HOUSTON, TX — A father will spend half of 2014 behind bars for doing too much for his son. After overpaying child support and seeing his son too often — breaking terms that were secretly modified without his knowledge — a judge sentenced him to a lengthy jail sentence.
OMAHA, NE — A 2-year-old toddler has been seized by Child Protective Services when a clip surfaced of him using “inappropriate” language in a video posted on the internet. The standard for breaking apart families has become so broad that it now covers politically incorrect speech.
HOUSTON, TX — When a Houston man stopped for an alleged traffic violation in front of his house, a wild scene of brutality followed. Police punched, kicked, and brutalized the driver and his family who objected to the police actions. Original charges against the family were dropped, but once a lawsuit was filed against the officer for excessive force, the family members were charged with crimes — two years after the incident — in what appears to be a clear case of police retaliation.
BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC — A devastated family is claiming that when they asked police for help in calming down their frantic schizophrenic son, police officers came and killed him “in cold blood.” When the 90-lb boy would not drop a tiny screwdriver, officers tased him repeatedly and shot him to death.
A combination of non-suspicious driving characteristics can give rise to the suspicion of criminal activity in the opinion of the full Ninth Circuit US Court of Appeals. In a Christmas Eve ruling, the judges weighed whether Border Patrol agents were right to conduct a “border stop” of a red Ford F-150 pickup truck on Interstate 15 while 70 miles north of the border with Mexico.
While some “journalists” would have you believe the biggest stories of 2013 were about twerking celebrities and over-hyped real-life courtroom sagas, much bigger events were happening with far more lasting national significance. The foundation of an American police state is already laid and making its existence known, while most of the country remains blissfully focused on sports, reality shows, establishment pseudo-news, and other distractions.
